HydroCarbon Refrigerants are on their way!

New to the USA: Hydrocarbon Refrigerants - R600a & R290 to name a few.

In the USA we are familiar with Isobutane used in lighters and such. Also propane is used quite extensively in the USA for cooking and heating purposes. Soon these substances will be used as a refrigerant in commercial products we buy and use here in the United States.

Hydrocarbon refrigerant R600a (isobutane) is being used today in >95% of all European household refrigerators and other geographic regions are transitioning to R600a. Additionally, R290 (propane) is being used in selective self-contained commercial refrigeration equipment in both Europe and Latin America.

Hydrocarbon refrigerants are expected to be approved for commercial and residential refrigeration equipment use in the United States as soon as this fall. Original equipment manufacturers are designing new HC refrigeration equipment for 2012 introductions. While the transition will take time, Tecumseh experts will explain what technicians should know to prepare for the upcoming change. Topics such as how HC refrigerants will affect the way equipment is serviced
